School Ponds
School Ponds
Ponds are one of the best ways to attract wildlife into your school grounds. No matter how large or small, a pond will guarantee the arrival of a whole range of wildlife including frogs, newts, insects and plants.
It will provide an excellent educational resource, right on your doorstep and is an exciting way to get children inspired to explore wildlife.
Activities such as pond dipping will provide an opportunity for children to view habitats, food chains and adaptations through first hand experiences.
By creating your own pond you will be helping to support our declining population of wildlife by providing a variety of creatures with the perfect home!
Example School Ponds
Lodge Farm School
Lodge Farm School in Stevenage contacted us in June 2014 to construct a new wildlife pond. Over several months site surveys were carried out and in early 2015 funding became available.
The construction of the new pond needed to adhere to the following criteria:
- Safety for the children
- Wheelchair access
- Dipping platform
- Ongoing maintenance
Work started in August 2015 and the school and the children were delighted with the pond and surrounding area. They are all looking forward to making good use of the new pond in 2016.
