Pond Solutions

School Ponds
Ponds are one of the best ways to attract wildlife into your school grounds. No matter how large or small, a pond will guarantee the arrival of a whole range of wildlife including frogs, newts, insects and plants.
It will provide an excellent educational resource, right on your doorstep and is an exciting way to get children inspired to explore wildlife.
Activities such as pond dipping will provide an opportunity for children to view habitats, food chains and adaptations through first hand experiences.
By creating your own pond you will be helping to support our declining population of wildlife by providing a variety of creatures with the perfect home!
Small Ponds
Now that so many ponds have disappeared from our country side amphibious creatures are dependant on garden ponds to survive. Even the tiniest garden pond will soon become home to frogs, toads and newts and almost as soon as the pond is built water boatmen and pond skaters will arrive. As with any size pond they all require maintenance at certain times of the year and a complete clear out every 3-4 years. So whether you would like a new pond built, an old pond refurbished or simply a good clean out, contact Women with Waders.
Wildlife Ponds
A pond is an attractive feature in any garden and once you have had a garden pond you wouldn’t want a garden without one
Water is essential to wildlife and many creatures will make use of it:
- Frogs, toads and newts will use even small bodies of water to breed
- Caddis flies, damselflies, dragonflies, mayflies, pond skaters, snails and water beetles breed in water
- Birds such as swallows and house martins will pick off insects from above the water surface and use muddy areas for nest building
- Even grass snakes may be seen hunting in garden ponds
Some wildlife can have more specific needs when it comes to ponds. Different sizes and depths can attract different inhabitants.
Swim Ponds
Natural swimming pools have been around in the UK since 2001. The basic principle of a swimming pond is to use the natural clarifying properties of plants to sustain clean, clear and healthy water which is also chemical free.
We offer swim pond construction, maintenance and cleaning services for our clients.
It is essential to maintain swim ponds regularly – we carry out a range of tasks including: Net out dead leave, empty the skinner baskets, trim dead foliage from aquatic plants, net out any blanket weed, hoover the bottom of the pond.
