Welwyn

Mr Borrie from Welwyn contacted us in June last year, he wanted his large pond refurbished. A good friend from Knebworth had recommended us (Mr Field- see example on this page).

An initial visit was made in June to discuss the pond and the resident goose and ducks. The pond was their home and they must be accommodated in the refurbishment. A quote was given and after a survey by the construction team work began in August when the weather was lovely and the sun shone every day. The first job was to empty the pond so the wild fowl had to be temporarily housed in another enclosure. It was a tough job as we found there were 7 layers of pond liner along with artificial turf as the top layer. To make provision for the ducks to get in and out of the pond a rock edge was constructed and then a paved area in front of that. This was to give added protection to the liner and stop the ducks wearing away the banks. A waterfall was constructed using some of the original stone, a large fountain installed with lights and a filtration system. Here is what Mr Borrie had to say about our service: “From start to finish what an amazingly efficient service from WWW. From the initial consultation to completion a wonderful team, clean and tidy, all done with great enthusiasm and care. It was a big job and we now have a pond fitting to the surroundings, looks great with the fountain lit at night, very impressed”

London

Pond refurbishment in London with the only access to the garden was through the hall, down the stairs with beige carpet, through the white kitchen to the garden. Boys have done a brilliant job as seen in the before and after photos. Here’s what Mrs P had to say: “I am delighted with my new pond; the team were brilliant. John & Russell kept their good humor throughout the work and were a pleasure to have around, thank you”

We have been looking after Mrs M’s pond for over a year now but in early November she contacted us after a big storm at the end of October. A large branch had broken off from a nearby tree and pieced the pond liner like a javelin. It was a thick branch and we informed her to leave it in place worried that removing the branch would open up the hole in the liner and drain the pond.

A site survey was carried out to assess the damage and ascertain if the liner could be repaired. Unfortunately the hole in the liner was very large and we could not guarantee that patching to the liner would be successful. A quote was given to replace the liner and fortunately for Mrs M her insurance covered the cost of this. Here’s what she had to say:

“Just a quick ‘hi’ to say again how delighted I am with the pond. I’ve attached a photo to show you how it’s coming on – really can’t believe that it was completely emptied earlier in the year.  Hope things are good for you all”.

Knebworth

Mr Field from Knebworth has been a client of Women with Waders since 2007 and over the years we have regularly maintained his pond, filters and stream. In February, after our usual monthly visit we discussed the possibility of extending the pond, the Koi desperately needed more space having grown over the years. As the pond was raised on the front edge our only option was to make the pond deeper and a little wider to one side.

The stream was to be dismantled and rebuilt in a more natural style and a new filtration system installed to cope with the large Koi.

As you can see from the before and after pictures below the refurbished pond looks fantastic and Mr Field was thrilled with the result.

“I’m proud to have supported a growing business from its early conception by allowing WWW to manage my pond. Having just completed a full refurbishment, I must say the professionalism, tidiness and end result makes me feel even more proud and lucky to have made that contact. I just keep smiling every time I look out of the window — thanks for a job very well done.” Mick Field.

Pond refurbishment with decking

Women with Waders have been looking after Mrs Porter’s pond for some years. We cleaned the pond out in October of that year and it was evident at the time the pond and surrounding area needed to be refurbished. A quote to refurbish the pond was submitted; this was accepted and work started in July. Mrs Porter’s garden has been transformed as you can see from the photos and here’s what she had to say about the work:

“After giving you a pretty limited brief for what I wanted you interpreted it so well the end result was far better than I imagined. All visitors to my revamped water garden gasp with delight at its transformation. Thank you so much. And the bonus was a lovely end to the summer enabling me to enjoy it even more.”

Large carp pond

We were approached by the Head Gardener from a country estate near Amersham. We were one of four companies chosen to quote for the refurbishment of a large carp pond along with the installation of a new wildlife pond. In February it was confirmed we had won the contract and work began at the end of March.

The pond was emptied and the fish placed in holding tanks, some fish were in a very poor condition due to the amount of waste they had been living in.

The pond was relined and the old York flagstones re-laid. A new filter system was fitted and a large fountain sited in the centre of the pond. The Koi were put back into their new home and now look in tip-top condition.

Women With Waders have continued to maintain both ponds and the filter system. The clients, along with their Head Gardener, are absolutely delighted with the end result:

“You promised us ‘gin clear’ water Jo, and we’ve certainly got it!”
